Head Table vs. Sweetheart Table
When choosing the layout for the reception space, one of the biggest considerations is whether you will have a head table or a sweetheart table. “What are these?” you may ask!
Head Table: A long rectangular table for the couple to sit at alongside their entire bridal party.
Sweetheart Table: A small round or rectangular table for just the bride & groom to sit at.
Here are a few pros & cons for each option (some specifically in regard to our reception area layout):
Head Table
Pros:
Has a more formal look to it.
Can be very grand and elegant once decked with decor.
Can help fill the space a little bit better if you have a smaller guest count.
Cons:
Leaves bridal party’s plus ones to find somewhere else to sit, even if they don’t know anyone else at the wedding.
Harder for bridal party members to actually talk to each other.
Takes up more space in the reception hall (not ideal for larger weddings).
More decor is needed (more expensive)
Sweetheart Table
Pros:
Bride & Groom have a space to relax for a few minutes while they eat.
Less decor needed to make it look nice.
Takes up less space (ideal for larger weddings)
Bridal party members can sit with their plus ones or at a larger round table with the other bridal party members.
Cons:
Could be awkward if bridal party members don’t know where to sit.
Sometimes puts more attention on the bride and groom.
